What to expect in a visit with a Registered Dietitian

Published July 14, 2023

A 1:1 visit with a WeightWatchers Registered Dietitian (RD) is your opportunity to speak with an expert on food, nutrition, lifestyle, and how that all works with your weight loss medication. Our dietitians provide individualized and realistic guidance to support you and help you to achieve your goals, whatever they may be!

Research shows that individuals who are most successful with weight loss and weight loss maintenance are those who set goals for themselves and receive guidance on how to achieve those goals from a professional. Our dietitians are here to help if you’d like their input, but knowing what kind of progress is most meaningful to you can help inform your session.

During your visit, your dietitian will likely ask you questions about your weight and health history, eating patterns, activity levels, and barriers to weight loss or healthy habits. They may also ask about other lifestyle factors that could be impacting your health, like your stress levels and sleep patterns. Our dietitians work with you exactly where you are to develop a personalized and sustainable plan for your nutrition.

A Registered Dietitian can help you to:

  • Use diet to manage side effects
  • Build habits for sustainable weight loss
  • Make healthy eating easy and doable
  • Optimize your food choices to include a variety of nutrients
  • Understand best practices to prevent loss of lean muscle mass, hair loss, and fatigue
  • Get answers to questions about food trends and misconceptions
  • Improve your relationship with food and your body
  • Design specific goals around nutrition and lifestyle habits
  • Navigate evidence-based resources that come with your membership

What makes a Registered Dietitian a nutrition expert?

Registered Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals who are legally allowed to practice Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), an evidence-based, individualized nutrition process meant to help treat certain medication conditions and lower the risk of new complications. Registered Dietitians are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, complete over 1,000 hours of supervised practice in the field of nutrition, pass a national board exam, and complete 75 continuing education credits every 5 years. RDs specialize in a range of health conditions including weight loss/maintenance/weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, kidney disease, gut health and digestive conditions, eating disorders, sports nutrition, and more.

Our RDs practice encouragement without judgment and are truly invested in helping you to feel your best.
